Your Child's Health --- A Top Priority
Why children are more susceptible to household toxins
Children absorb higher doses of chemicals than adults and are much more easily harmed by inhaling, ingesting or absorbing toxic substances because:
- Children in the first six months of life drink seven times as much water per unit of body weight compared to the average adult.
- Children from 1 - 5 years of age eat almost four times more food per unit of body weight than the average adult.
- Resting infants breathe twice as much air, unit of body weight, as resting adults.
- Children from birth to two years of age have more than twice the body surface area of an adult - an important factor for the many chemicals that can absorb through skin.
- Young children put their hands in their mouths more often than adults, and play closer to the floor where many household cleaning chemicals tend to be concentrated.
As you can see, most of the damage occurs in the home, and that is where the greatest improvements can be made.
