Home Pollution Increases Asthma & Allergies
Asthma... a modern day phenomenon!
At the risk of showing my age<grin>... I was raised in the country in the early 1950s and went to a one room, 2 teacher school that used to accommodate approximately 50 children from 5 to 12 years of age. Naturally in such close confines, not only did we know all the other students, but most of their parents and other family members.
It is only since I have become interested in the negative effects of household toxins that I realised that in that group of 50 children, I cannot recall a single child who suffered from asthma! There was also a remarkable absence of the multiplicity of other chronic illnesses that seem to afflict so many of our young children today.
Upon reflecting on the general health of my friends parents and adult family members, I'm also hard-pressed to recall any adult women suffering from breast cancer either. In fact, when questioning other friends and business associates in my own age group, they all report similar findings when recalling the incidence of these modern-day diseases in their childhoods. Obviously we cannot lay 100% of the blame on the toxins in modern household consumable products, however I firmly believe that the incremental impact of long-term exposure to many of these insidious chemicals cannot be ignored.
Fortunately I and my colleagues are supported in our view by the recent findings of many eminent scientists. In particular, one of our Australian experts, Prof. Krassi Rumchev has published alarming prelimary results from her recent study of childhood Asthma.
Another world expert is Dr. Philip J. Landrigan, Professor of Pediatrics, Chair of Community and Preventive Medicine, and Director of Environmental and Occupational Medicine at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City. At Mount Sinai, he has directed research programs on environmental and occupational medicine, lead poisoning, asbestos, AIDS, tuberculosis, and childhood asthma.
Fortunately many responsible manufactures are now bringing superb, low-toxicity household cleaning, body and health care products to market... so today we can make a concious decision to switch brands and dramatically lower the levels of these dangerous chemicals in our homes. You'll find more information on alternate cleaning products in the "Reducing toxins" section of this website. You will also be able to access specific instructions to allow you to create a healthier home environment.
